Transformation G-CO.A.5
commoncore geometry

Posted by raystuckey on Wednesday, October 30, 2013

I've been working hard on developing a unit for teaching geometry with Common Core. Transformation are a concept that supports a lot of the rest of the concepts in Geometry. We decided to move the pacing around so we could spend time and get in-depth with transformations and then we can use it when we start teaching congruence. So is my unit that I did with my geometry classes. These are just the worksheets that you would pass out, and I lead the teaching from them. Please leave me any comments and feel free to share and change as much as you want.

G-CO.A.5 Transformations

The end result is we made posters in class that summarized all the work we did and now we refer to them in class when we are talking about congruence. The formulas are especially helpful.

About Me

I’m a creative teacher with a passion for technology. I am the de-facto tech expert for the math department, and love it. I grew up in Michigan, and have been in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2005, but I still miss the snow. I am an avid science-fiction reader, a tuba player, and have a quirky fondness for frogs.

Teaching Experience

Math Teacher at Angelo Rodriguez High School in Fairfield, California

2009 to Present

I have taught Algebra I, Algebra Lab, Integrated Math I, Geometry, and Statistics. I lead teachers in implementing KhanAcademy into Algebra and Geometry instruction and in creating standards-aligned common assessments in Algebra and Geometry. I also tutor for School After School, the school’s tutoring program. In the 2013-14 school year, I participated in the committee that planned and designed the transition to Common Core classesfor FSUSD. In 2014-15, I facilitated professional development sessions for teachers in the district with implementing the Common Core standards in their classroom.

Director of Bands at Sullivan Middle School in Fairfield, California

2005 to 2009

I taught three levels of concert band classes, including Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Bands for grades 7 and 8, which participated in at least 2 concerts a year. I also taught Jazz Band and oversaw Color Guard program. My extracurricular duties included overseeing Scholastic-level Drumline, and teaching all aspects of Marching Band. Advanced Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Drumline, and Color Guard all participated in NCBA competitions with a high level of success. I worked closely with the Band Booster organization to fundraise and meet a budget of over $50,000 to support the success of the band each year.
